I had to go to the ER this morning cause i was up all night in pain. So they did and ultrasounds and X-rays. And found out i DO have gallstones. But i always hear bad things about getting it out. Like some people always feel sick and some have diahrea. And even though it was taken out they still cant eat fatty foods. They said its my choice weather i want it taken out or not. Either i watch what i eat and live with the pain. Unles it became infected then it has to be removed. I should be ok. But i just dont know whats best. ALso they said they would like to stick a camera down my throat to see if theres andything wrong with my stomach. A dr said she thinks i might have an ulcer. Ughh so many problems. anyone have advice?

While it is true that some people continue to have problems after gall bladder surgery, there are more people who have the surgery and are just fine afterward. It is generally recommended to go easy on fatty food until you find out what your body will tolerate, but many people go back to eating whatever they want.

Here is what iVillage has to say about gallstones: http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/gallstones.html

You are giving information about tests but have not included the most relevant piece of information that a doctor needs to give a diagnosis. When you go to the emergency room, their task is to determine whether or not you have a life threatening condition. The most important part of the diagnostic process is the history of your symptoms and the findings on the physical exam. Only after a thorough initial evaluation can the results of the tests help make a diagnosis. Gallstone symptoms usually occur after a meal and the discomfort is usually in the right upper abdomen. It usually is not an everyday occurrence and tends to be more severe in the evening. The pain is a crampy pain that comes and goes. Other causes of upper abdominal pain include peptic ulcer disease and acid reflux. Peptic ulcers usually occur in the stomach (gastric) or duodenum (first part of the small intestine) and the pain is daily. Stomach ulcers are a dull boring pain that is worse after eating. Duodenal ulcers are better with meals. Peptic ulcers are caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori or NSAIDs (over the counter nonsteroidal antiinflammatoary drugs include Motrin, ibuprofen, naprosyn, Aleve and aspirin or prescription medications). The pain from ulcers usually gets better with antacids or other acid lowering medications. Acid reflux is caused by acid from the stomach going up to the esophagus. The discomfort is usually described as a burning chest pain or a knot like pain in the lower midline chest that radiates to the back. There are other less common causes of abdominal pain. Your doctor can spend some time talking to you and examining you to help order the minimum number of tests to help make the diagnosis.
