I had one back in '06 at the start of our journey.
Most of the procedure is not painful. Much like your regular pelvic exams. I only had pain once they injected the dye. You will need sanitary supplies afterwards to get all the dye!!
I was told to take Advil before hand. I took two about 1/2 through our 90 minute drive and then 2 more when we got to the medical place. I was taking advil the rest of the day and was in crampy pain. I am not a good example since I don't get cramps with AF. I just wasn't use to this pain. Towards the end of the day, I switched to Tylenol and that seemed to help more than the Advil. I don't remember if I had to take more Tylenol the next day. I may have for the residual muscle discomfort.
