My doctor just ordered a Hysterosalpingogram for me.  My girlfriend said she cried the entire time because of the pain.  Anyone else have this?

I've not had this, but I do know of several women who have.  It can be a bit uncomfortable, and I'd suggest asking your doctor is there's anything you can take before hand for the pain/discomfort.

Good luck!

I had one back in '06 at the start of our journey.

Most of the procedure is not painful.  Much like your regular pelvic exams.  I only had pain once they injected the dye.  You will need sanitary supplies afterwards to get all the dye!!

I was told to take Advil before hand.  I took two about 1/2 through our 90 minute drive and then 2 more when we got to the medical place.  I was taking advil the rest of the day and was in crampy pain.  I am not a good example since I don't get cramps with AF.  I just wasn't use to this pain.  Towards the end of the day, I switched to Tylenol and that seemed to help more than the Advil.   I don't remember if I had to take more Tylenol the next day.  I may have for the residual muscle discomfort.

Great, thanks so much for the advice.  I'm getting the same answer from the friends I have talked to that have had it.  I had one friend who said she cried the entire time, so I think I'm getting more worried then I should be.  I appreciate you taking the time!

Hi- I have had an HSG, back in May, (the doctor required it before he would prescribe Clomid) and I must say it was extremely uncomfortable. The dye itself did not hurt, however the clamps they used to get the camera and dye in was very painful. The whole procedure probably only lasted about 10 minutes and I did experience cramping after. I had my period at the time so maybe this had an impact on the test. I wish you the best of luck though with yours!
