We often tend to have memorials to our loved ones but sometimes it is nice to have a special way to try and take the pain out of the anniversaries that we had to part from them.  I have formed the habit of making sure that someone who needs something, maybe extra groceries for example, gets them but when they appear anonymously on the doorstep they bear a card with  " In loving memory of ................. "and nothing else.   I can't afford big things but it is nice to know someone gets a few moments happiness in his name.

Have you anything you would like to do or have done ? What would help you?

What a wonderful thought!

I usually let the person know that I'm thinking of them and their loved one on not just the anniversary of their loss, but on the loved one's birthday as well.  I love the idea of doing something like taking some groceries or just sending some flowers in their loved ones name though.  :)

I just love it when people remember his birthday as well as his passing and I know that you acknowledging this type of thing with those you know is a comforting gesture.  It sort of makes them still real in our lives.  Part of the comfort is knowing they are not forgotten.

I  am going to have to have a rethink for next year now that  we have moved as I don't know many people in this neighbourhood.

That's a very nice thought.  I'm digging up my mom's large old garden and am donating the flowers to my children's school for a garden there.  She loved children and her flowers so we'll keep the two together.  One of the moms at the school is a landscape architect and is doing all the plans.  The school is a Montessori school so every desk always gets fresh flowers.  I think my mom would appreciate her flowers being admired by the children every day.

Geri, that is a wonderful gesture and will give the children, not only flowers, but an appreciation of their beauty.  I am sure your mom will approve completely.
