Need some advice... I went to the doctor a week and a half ago because of an unusual period and unusual spotting. She did an exam and found I had abnormal bleeding on my cervix and took a biopsy of that. I am still waiting on the results. I am still having spotting and my first period after quitting the pill has come and gone, and I occasionally still have pain. I was wondering if this is something my husband and I should be worried about? After reading information about different types of cancer, I just have myself all worried and I don't know what to think.

How long has it been since you quite the pill? Sometimes that can cause these kinds of things to happen. It's very good you are getting it checked out though and I hope the doctor will get back to you soon so you don't have to wait and worry too long. In the meantime try not to stress over it (I know it's hard) and don't read too much on the internet at this point. Too much scary stuff out there that probably will not relate to you at all. Please update us when you can.

I quit the pill that day that I had my appointment and biopsy. We decided that was the best, also because I have terrible headaches and migraines. So I was initially having the spotting while I was still on the pill. Now I've been off the pill about a week and a half, and I think my body will just be confused for a while!

I heard from the nurse last night. She said it was just inflammation (can't spell) of my cervix, and that it was nothing to be too concerned about. Well of course, I still was, because I'm still having some pelvic pain and light. Then I thought about it and realized I forgot to ask her what causes it and if I can do anything to prevent it in the future. So I called her today and she pulled my charts and then said she was confused.. She told me normally when there is unusual bleeding on the cervix and inflammation, it's caused by the immune system failing to fight infected or cancerous cells.. She said she would talk to the doctor and they would call me back. So now I'm waiting again..

I'm even scared to have sex because I'm so afraid it will trigger pain or make something worse. My poor husband! And like you said, I'm trying not to read into stuff on the internet, because that doesn't help the nerves.

I'm glad you followed up to find out about the pelvic pain - and also glad that the nurse took the time to look at your chart. That was a really good question you had for her - it's my opinion (I'm not a medical person) that if we are having pain the the cause needs to be investigated. It could even be a pulled or strained muscle - but I would think that the doctor would want to rule out any other causes.

Did the nurse get back to you with a reasonable explanation or plan for follow up?

Had they given you an indication when the bleeding would stop (ie. sometimes they say if there is no change in X # of days to return)?

Hopefully you've gotten some good answers by now.

If it's any comfort - when I was dx w/ cervical cancer I had no symptoms, no bleeding.

I still haven't heard back from the nurse when she said she would talk to the doctor. At this point, I'm not having any spotting or discharge, thankfully. I felt like I was on a month-long period! Just occasional pelvic pain. So maybe she was right and it was just inflammation on the cervix, and it's healing since the medicine was put on it.

All the info on cervical cancer I've read on the internet makes it seem like it is caused by and STD and develops into cervical cancer. But I could have read that wrong. That would be impossible for me anyways.

I will keep you updated if anything changes or I hear anything!
