Hello,

I thought i'd post here because I know I have some sort of infection, down below but not sure on which one.I've had BV twice before so I know what the symptoms are,how it feels etc.Since sunday I noticed an odour...not really a fishy odour that usually accompanies BV just....a pungent odour....keep in mind I just finished my period last saturday. Then yesterday the odour went away somewhat,I hardly noticed it at all but there was some mild itching....Iam confused becuase alot of what i've read says yeast infections have no odour, however i don't know if it is BV becuase there is always an odour with it when I have it and I did have an odour similar to the one with BV but it went away after 2 or 3 days.I did call my doctor she just said by some monistat,I told her all i had was an odour, and monistat is for yeast infections....if yeast infections are odourless why would she tell me to buy monistat.Ive just never had a yeast infection before but I've had BV twice...I have no clue which it could be,Iam hanging toward yeast mainly becuase all the symptoms I had with BV I don't have or literally are so mild I don't notice it.There is literally just an odour.I bought canestan 1 day cure as im going on vacation tomorrow and don't want this hanging around,I used it last night so we'll see how things are tonight and tomorrow morning. Its just if it is BV  canesten isn't going to get rid of it,as bv is a bacterial infection, yeast is fungus...then I'll be on vacation with an infection.Any thoughts??

My suggestion is to request that you be seen today, before leaving for vacation tomorrow, to be treated correctly.  Your doctor telling you to simply buy an OTC YI medication isn't a good idea without actually evaluating the infection.  You don't want to feel miserable during your vacation!

thanks for your response, unfortunatley today i work 9-6 so can't go in to see my doctor and the urgent care clinics close at 5 my only option is to go to the emergency room which Iam not doing over a yeast infection lol. Especially since I need to pack today after work.I guess I can always go somewhere in vancouver if the infection doesn't go away in a few days.

Yes, you're right, going to the ER for a possible YI or BV wouldn't really be feasable, LOL.
I do hope that you are able to comfortably enjoy that vacation of yours!  If you need to seek treatment during your time away, you'll just do it.

Good luck, have fun!

Hi Hollie,

I just posted a response to your more recent message not realizing that you've already experienced BV before, so sorry about repeating the information!

Anyways, I've been to my gynecologist twice in the past 4 months to be treated for BV. Originally I went because I too was experiencing painful sex and bleeding after. I went 3 months later because I had a discharge with a fishy odour.

As it turns out BV is a common term for any vaginal infection, but there are some 16 different bacterias that live in our vagina. So the infection you mention in your more recent post may have been the result of a different bacteria overgrowth not causing the usual fishy odour.

It is also common for women to experience the BV - yeast overgrowth - BV cycle, as antibiotics tend to cause yeast infections that once cured result in bv starting up again.

I don't think it was right of the doctor not to examen you. You know your body best, and if it feels like bv, then it probably is.

I hope this helps a little. Good luck and keep me posted.

Jennifer from Montreal.
ps: I've read that probiotics are really good to take for vaginal health. So here's to yogurt!
