I was supposed to travel, but my liver function tests ALT and AST came back high, so I'm postponing the trip a little. I will be retested on the 16th of Nov. to see if my liver numbers go down a little bit. I've gotten off all my pills. From a eating standpoint though, what should my diet look like, or more importantly, what food should I exclude to get my liver numbers back to within a normal range.

Thanks for any input.

I was told that the best diet I could use was a diet for diabetics.  Takes out all the fat stuff...sugar, white products, and the like and puts in good solid items...such as salmon, chicken, fresh veggies.  This is suggested for weight, health, and a few other things.  My liver is diagnosed as fatty...so it is really important for me...it also keeps my other functions in a better place.  Try salads with lo-cal dressing along with no foods cooked with white, like rice, biscuits, pasta, etc, fresh fish or chicken with fresh veggies...and its hard to go wrong.  Oh yes...forget the dessert..but some fresh fruits are available.  Look up diabetic diets and check with the diabetic or healthy eating boards.  Good luck and God bless......let me know how the new tests come out.

Hi,

The only thing that lowered my liver enzymes has been predisone and imuran.  The enzymes are a sign that the liver is inflamed and irritated. I wish you lots of luck with getting the number down.

Thanks both for your answers. I see how you are saying I should eat healthier all natural foods and that usually means whole wheat and things like that, BUT the big issue is that I have delayed Gastric emptying I'm dealing with right now, and the fact of the matter is that all those white bread and other not so healthy things are actually healthier for me. It's crazy. I will get a blood test on the 18th.
