What are the best ways of preventing another outbreak? I know people say healthy diet but what kind of foods. Also what are the triggers for outbreaks? I want to avoid meds if at all possible. Thanks for all your help!

Hi there ;)

Some of the other ways to try to prevent herpes out breaks are: plenty of rest, reduction in stress, do not smoke or drink alcohol.  Then there is L-Lysine which is an over the counter dietary suppliment that you can take daily which has had really good results with people.  But if you don't want to even take that, then there are foods that contain it as well.

When living with the herpes virus one should know that higher concentrations of lysine can be found in the following foods: chicken, milk, fish, beef, cheese, beans, and most fruits and vegetables (except peas). These foods are rich in lysine and recommended when living with herpes simplex.

Foods recommended avoiding if suffering from genital herpes or oral herpes, which have more arginine than lysine: wheat, oats, chocolate, peanuts, gelatin, coconut, and white flour. As a result of this lower ratio of lysine to arginine, these foods may trigger a genital herpes or oral herpes outbreak. These foods are deficient in lysine and not recommend for suppressing genital herpes or oral herpes outbreaks.

Also, for more nutrition information, check out this link Herpes - Nutrition.

Hope this helps!

Hugs!
