Hi everyone. I'm new here and I have a question from a friend who is HIV+. He is newly diagnosed and he would like to know how close they are finding a cure for this disease? What kind of things they are studying to find a cure. Any information would be appreciated! Thank you for reading. -Susan

Greetings and Welcome Susan,

Unfortunately the answers to your questions can not be covered in one post. On the board in various posts I cover many of the current testings and research.   Researchers are studying everything from Nevirapine during labor and delaying Nevirapine-Based Antiretroviral Therapy to prevent drug resistance to a study going on in Jerusalem.

The HIV/AIDS paradox of modern treatment is that one can lead a normal life and life span with new drugs but often those same dug have a level of toxicity that can play havoc on one's body.

Here are a few references to help one keep up todate on HIV/AIDS-these are just a few of many:

Medical News Today-HIV/AIDS- http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/sections/hiv-aids/

AIDSinfo - HIV / AIDS Information

CDC HIV/AIDS

Daily HIV/AIDS Report - Kaisernetwork.org

An iVillage Search will also return quite a bit of information:  http://search.ivillage.com/search/ivillage?sk=ivi&restrict=ivillage&q=HIV%2FAIDS&x=11&y=13

Putting the term HIV/AIDS or HIV Research into your browser also returns quite a bit of information.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
