I was wondering if anyone can help me with what to expect, what to be careful about, any helpful advice, etc. My latest test results came back:

TSH (Sensitive) normal range 0.3-4.2    My Result: 18.78

T4, Free  normal range 0.8-1.8               My Result: 0.6

The nurse called and said they are writing me a prescription and will test me again in 6 weeks. I'm in the process of switching doctors due to the treatment I've received from this doctor lately- I asked her about Thyroid when I went in not feeling well and she made it clear she would test me but was irritated with my self-diagnosis. But I was right!

Anyway, I've noticed a lack of tolerance for alcohol lately- is this connected? My husband and I want to have another child in a year or so, can or will this make that difficult or cause issues?

I haven't heard anything about the intolerance of alcohol being connected to Hypothyroid but it makes sense since its something that can effect our immune system and alcohol is basically a poison. For the second issue I have heard that your medication should be closely monitored during a pregnancy and that if your levels change while try to conceive it can make it harder.
I would get a referral to a specialist that deals with hypothyroid conditions usually an endocrinologist. Then bring up all your questions with him/her.
You may need to have several blood tests before your medication is at the right dose and everything stabilizes. I'm currently on my 4th increase in medication and I have another blood test scheduled in about 10 days. I was diagnosed in May 2009. A good doctor will have a range that they want to get your thyroid to mine wants to see it between 1 and 2. You will want to ask about this since many people have symptoms when they are on the edge of the laboratory range. When I was diagnosed I found out I have been on the edge for the last 5 years and I have had symptoms for at least that long.

Good Luck with your treatment!!
