Hi!  I'm looking for information about recovery.  I had a Hyst and Tummy Tuck on the 8th and it seems impossible to find info on recovery about the two together.  Not sure if this is the place to ask the question but I thought I would start here.

I guess if I could even understand the recovery for the Hyst separately that would help as well.  It's had to distinguish pain from one versus another.  I know there is swelling associated with both and would like to understand what other women experience in their recovery from the Hyst and/or a Tummy Tuck.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you are able to offer.

Hi kat!  Welcome to the board.  No experience with the tummy tuck.  But I had a total abdominal hysterectomy.  Didn't your dr give you any ideas what to expect?  Did you get a list of things not to do?

I had my total the end of October and it was not until January I felt like myself.

Have you seen the dr yet?

It's late for me..  lol  Let me know what info you have if any and your dr's appointment...  I'll get back to you!

Thanks for the response.  I really didn't get anything detailed from me Dr. other than I'll be off for 4 to 6 weeks, no lifting, driving, stay down and relax that type of thing.  I'm looking for details.  Like the swelling associated, are there things that can help with that?  Again, it's hard to distinguish between the TT pain and the Hyst pain.  Also, what about emotions?  Why do I feel a little hot sometimes.  I really want to know what other women experienced.

Since my surgeons worked together, I saw my TT Surgeon when I got out of the Hospital.  I won't see my OB for another couple of weeks.  I have spoken with them.  The only issue I'm having is headaches which we feel are tension type headaches of which peace and quiet are the key.

Thanks again for any information you can offer.

I will start with the feeling hot.  Did you have a total?  Were you started on any hormones?  The feeling hot, if you mean all over, not just the surgical site, is from the hysterectomy.  Your type of 'hot flash'.  If you had a total and not started on hormones.  If you had a total and were started on hormones, hormones are a trial and error thing and might need tweaking.  I was not put on hormones after my surgery and while I was in the hospital I thought I would die...  felt as if the bed were radiating heat.  Thankfully when I got home I was fine!

The lady who cuts my hair had a tummy tuck with her hysterectomy.  I wish I had talked to her more about that now.  I know she wore a girdle for some time after.  Are you wearing a girdle or ban to hold your stomach in?

I don't think over all there is anything to help with swelling other than time.  Also, I had what I call jelly belly for a few months after.  It felt as if, my abdomen 'moved' when I laughed.  Made me think of The Night Before Christmas...  "with a round little belly, that shook when he laughed like a bowl full of jelly..."  Thankfully that did go away!  It is also called 'swelly belly' too.  Probably self explanatory.  lol
