I have no idea where to post this, so I'm hoping this might be a starting place.

In a nutshell, I'm always tired. I'm 28 years old. I can't say when exactly I started getting so tired, but maybe the last year or so. I was a teacher for about four years, but I stopped teaching in January. Even being jobless for a while I was tired; but now that I've started a new job it's much worse. I work full time and stand all day, and I work from 6 am to 2 pm so I'm getting up at about 4:30 every morning. I try to get to bed between 9 and 10; that doesn't always happen, but even when I get a full night's sleep I'm usually exhausted by the time I get home. In fact, I usually come home and nap for a few hours. It just seems like no amount of sleep makes any difference on how tired I am. I know I work an early shift, but it's been almost three months so I thought I'd adjust by now. And anyway, it was pretty similar to my teaching schedule for the last several years, where I was usually at work by 6:30 anyway.

I'll admit my lifestyle isn't stellar... I don't exercise on a regular basis (because I'm so tired and have little time to because I'm either working or sleeping as it is). My weight is normal but my diet is probably just okay... I'm sure I don't get enough fruits and veggies and all that, but then none of that has changed recently, whereas my energy level definitely has. They've checked my thyroid several times in the last few years and it's always normal.

I just don't feel normal. Other people I work with older than me stay out drinking all night and getting no sleep, and they seem to have no problem standing all day at work and don't seem near as tired as I am. A few years ago, I would go out and socialize a few nights a week... now the thought of going out at all let alone staying out anywhere past nine seems utterly exhausting. Is this normal?

Hi summerjade18,

There probably could be several possibilities that might be affecting you but without a full work-up by your doctor, it's hard to tell.  My first thought was your thyroid and having those problems myself, I know you can have test readings in the "normal" range but still have a problem.  Your doctor needs to consider your symptoms as well as the tests.  Did you have the full range of tests (TSH, T4, T3, antibody)?  There are other autoimmune conditions that your doctor might want to check into.

Let me list a few boards that you can copy/paste your message on and see if they can relate to how you're feeling.
