So I started Chantix today. I was giong to wait till some promotions happend at work, but i just want to be smoke free. I am worried about all the mental side effects i have read about. i am really sensitive to medication and stuff. Accutane about drove me crazy and my job suffered because of how depressed and unfocused i was when i was on it. but i cant keep smoking and i dont think i can quit on my own right now....ive only taken the first pill today...should i not take it yet and wait till after promotions and interviews at work....in case i go crazy on it?

Hi!! I have not been on here in soooo long! I can't even remember when I was last here!! LOL

I have been smoke free 17 months now. It took me 2 tries with Chantix, but I did it! The first time it did cause ne to have some sleep distubances so I quit taking it and of course started smoking again. Though I could only smoke about 5 cigareetes a day or I would get to sick to my stomach. I also posted here. I know it is helpful for some but it made me think about it more. So the second time I did not count the days on the calendar or post here. So the days just passed by. That was much better for me.

Anyway, I gave myself a little break, got doing an excercise program. I opted for walking. Then set my sights on the first week of June 2008 and never looked back!

This second time around with Chantix I just stayed on 1 pill the whole time and it did not cause me near as much trouble and I was successful. I still want a cigarette sometimes but I know how sick it would make me so not to much of a temptation. I pretty much understand that the urge will never go away completely. IT IS AN ADDICTION! My husband still smokes but he has to do it outside or in the garage. No smoking is allowed in the house...PERIOD! He will smoke in the car with me but it really doesn't bother me and he does roll the window down.

It really sounds like maybe you are not quite ready to commit to it yet. But you have to make that call. You can always wait...but you can always have an excuse not to quit too.

Hoping the best for you...YOU CAN DO IT!!!
