Like most mothers that I know, I'm really fed up with what so many restaurants put on their children's menus and try to pass off as wholesome and good. If you were planning a menu, what would your perfect childrens' menu have on it?

hmmmm...good question.  I can think of several restaurants which are doing better.  I am pretty impressed with Red Robin recently, fresh carrots, fresh canteloupe, apples....those are good choices for sides.

I think the best things would be whole grain pastas instead of white flour pastas.

A good choice of fresh veggies and fresh fruits and I don't really think corn needs to be counted as a 'veggie', its a starch for goodness sake!  Not saying that we don't like it but I see way too many starches on kids menus.  I refuse to let my kid get mac n cheese and then his side as fries or corn, I make him choose a fresh fruit or another veggie.

LOL I do the same. My daughter would have mac n cheese and fries every day if I let her but I make her choose a fruit or veggie if she decides on it.

My kids are older now so I don't look at children's menus anymore & dont know how much or little they've improved, but I used to be horrified of the choices - chicken fingers, fries, burgers, mac & cheese, spaghetti & meatballs, hot fudge sundaes, etc.    Outback has a petite sirloin on their kid's menu so ds, who loves steak, used to get that.  We would try to substitute fries with a baked potato & give him some of our salad if it wasnt available on kid's menu.

How about grilled chicken, turkey burgers, whole grains, salads, baked potatoes?  Fresh fruit for dessert.

Over time small steps make a huge difference.

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.

Oh yes! What great ideas. I have yet to ever see salad listed on a children's menu but would love the option.
