Does your school give students an award for perfect attendance?

My daughter was half sick over the weekend, and today she's home
with a fever. She was so upset when she found out about the
fever because she was hoping to win that award at the end of the
year.

I think swine flu casts new light on awards of this nature. Any
thoughts?

Hi Susan.

I hope your dd is feeling better.

Perfect attendance is recognized in our district.  High attendance (94%) is one of the state indicators that we have to meet.  With the H1N1 and general flu season concern, I would say that our district focus still resides on the individual child's health and the health concerns of others in that situation.  Schools in our area are stressing for students to stay at home with identified illnesses and flu symptoms.  In my classroom, I recognize good attendance on a weekly basis.  With the health issues this year, I don't think our district is expecting perfect attendance, but hopefully good attendance with permitted excuses for absences.  Extended illness are normally backed with a doctor's note.  Being in a urban school, many factors come in to play around a student's absence.

Hugs, Susan. No it's nothing like that. She just had a
bit of a temperature over the weekend. She's energetic
and chipper once more.

Thanks, Deb. She's feeling much better. We really packed in
the fluids while she had that temperature.
