non smoking female, just diagnosed with stage 3b adenocarcinoma (non small cell). I can't believe this is happening to me, especially since this is my second cancer diagnosis in 3 1/2 years (the other was entirely unrelated). Started chemo and rads. this week, with cisplatin and VP16 and the highest dose of radiation that can safely be given. Wish me luck-I have two small children 3 & 6 and they need a mommy!

Hi, Debra.........and welcome to the board!

You've certainly had and are having a rough time! I'll definitely wish you a LOT of luck, and send positive thoughts and prayers your way too!
With the chemo and radiation treatments you're on, expect to be VERY tired. Do you have someone who can come in each day to help you out with the things you really can't do because of the exhaustion? Someone to help out with the kids? If you DO, that will be a HUGE help to you!
What have you told the kids......or have you mentioned anything to them yet? Sometimes kids are very intuitive and although they may not know WHAT is wrong, they know SOMETHING is not "right"......and they worry! It may help YOU as well as THEM for you to explain a little of what's going on.....why Mommy is so tired, why Mommy's hair looks different, why Mommy doesn't feel well. Your doctor may have some suggestions about explaining things to very young children....if not, the American Cancer Society has a wealth of information for the asking. If you haven't done so already, I would definitely suggest calling your local chapter of the Cancer Society and asking for all the literature and booklets they have!

Good luck, Debra.....post often with updates on how you're doing, okay?

Welcoming (((hugs))),
Linda.
