Lupus Anticoagulant Increases Risk of Stroke...

Women with the lupus anticoagulant -- an antiphospholipid antibody -- had five times the risk of heart attack of other women, and a 40-fold greater risk of stroke, researchers said.

Among women under 50, taking oral contraceptives or smoking added tremendously to that risk, Philip G. de Groot, MD, of University Medical Center Utrecht, the Netherlands, and colleagues reported online in The Lancet Neurology.
