I am 43 and menopausal (2 years).  I had was doing fine until July on Prempro.45/1.5.  Then my moods went nuts and i became internally and externally dry to the point of severe discomfort (not having sex, just in general).  I tried various natural remedies from the menopause oasis and other resources to no avail, although inositol helps some times.  In August I had multiple episodes of bleeding.  I had my annual in September and my doctor scheduled an ultrasound, sonohistogram and biobsy.  She also upped my hormones to .625/2.5.  My moods have gotten better but it did not help the dryness.  So I just started using premarin.

I had the tests done on Tuesday and the lining was thin and they did not see anything during the ultrasound or sonohistogram so I am waiting on the results.  The sonohistogram and the biopsy caused intense cramps during and mild cramps for the rest of the day.  The biopsy hurt to the point that I yelled out when she took the sample.

Questions:  What caused the changes in July?  Did I make the right decision to increase the hormones?  As to the biopsy and other test, I am sore in my abdominal area, mostly when sitting upright. I feel like my uterus is sore, swollen or bruised and when sitting up, I am squishing it.  Is this normal?  I did not get any info from my doctor's office as to what to expect during or after the procedures, although I did get some info here and other places on the procedures.

I was okay with menopause until, recently but now I am not liking it much.

Hi! I am going to be brief, this computer shut down the first time I typed this so I will try to get it done and posted in case......

Ok, oral hormones will not take care of the dryness.  You need an estrogen cream like premarin.

Yes, it is 'normal' for the biopsy to cause 'cramps'.  Did they tell you to take anything before?  Ibuprofen/tylenol?  They should have.

You had that done Tuesday?  You are still having pain from it?  I don't think you should......  When do you see the dr?  Can you call in the morning?  If not call first thing Monday and talk to his nurse.  Let her know what is going on and she can either answer your questions, or talk to the dr and get back to you.  I don't think the pain you can blame on menopause...

Sorry this is short...  fingers crossed I can get this posted!  LOL

Please do contact your doctor's office about the continuing pain...that does NOT sound right.

I have a feeling that one or both of your ovaries shut down production of hormones completely in July causing the sudden shift in the way your body was functioning.  Upping your hormone intake was probably a good move, but it may not address all of your symptoms - at least not right away!

If the dryness you are concerned with dryness of the vaginal area you may need to ask your doctor for some vaginal estrogen cream. Vaginal dryness is not very well addressed by taking oral hormones.  I was on oral Premarin for years and had to supplement it with vaginal estrogen. I use Premarin vaginal cream - but there are other brands and methods of application available.

It would be nice if when Ma Nature introduced us to menopause she'd just keep things the same, but she is fickle and changes things up on us just as we begin to adjust to what we have been dealing with!  I have found that using a good Vitamin B Complex 50 daily along with the Inositol help keep my moods more even.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing and what your doctor says about that pain.

The biopsy was negative.  The pain is gone and turned out to mostly be my digestive system but according to the nurse there could have been some soreness from the intense cramping I had during the sonohystogram and biopsy although I probably wouldn't have felt much if it had not been for the other issue.

I am using premarin but just started it last week, it is helping.  I am also taking B 50 complex and have been for a long time.  The inositol has helped some but I haven't been taking it everyday.  I will try that.

Thanks for the info on the ovaries, I though they both 'died' when I started menopause.  I got "Menopause for Dummies" from the library, hopefully it will give me a better understanding of all this

Thanks for the update!  Glad it was negative and that the pain is gone!  As for the book, I don't know how good it is.  There are some books at the Menopause Oasis, you might want to check out too!
