Hi ladies.  I'm new here.  I'm 47 and have been in pain since April.  Just on the left side.  I had a mammogram and an ultrasound in June.  They were normal.  I've complained to my doc and I felt that she really dismissed it, saying that if I really tracked it I'd find that it's related to my cycle.  It's not.  It hurts every day.  Especially in the middle of the night and when I wake up in the morning.  I've tried some home remedies:  Switching away from underwire bras.  Taking Evening Primrose Oil.  Reducing caffeine.  Using a heat pad.  I wish I could get an MRI just to put my mind at ease.  I'm at that age now where I can't even believe how many women I know that have found out they have breast cancer.  In addition to pain, my breasts are lumpy and leaky, so self checks are pretty worthless to me.

Anybody else here in pain?  What have you tried?  What has worked?

Gentle hugzzz to you Mary Ellen, and welcome to our board.  This is something I have rarely had to deal with and when I do my breasts are not terribly painful nor does it last for long.  We do have some suggestions on the 'Natural Remedies' page at our Menopause Oasis for things that might help temporarily.

Is the doctor who is dissing you about this your family doctor or a GYN?  Whichever, I'm thinking I'd demand that she pay attention to me or find someone else who will!  And while some leaking can occur during these tremendous hormonal surges we go through at this time of life there should not be a whole lot of it.

The lumpiness may be due to fibroids (very common at our age) but still you should not have to deal with constant pain.

Please keep us posted on how you are doing.  Please know that you are welcome here anytime ~ to ask questions, to vent, to share experiences or to just hang out with other gals who understand and care...
