Week Six | NOVEMBER 15, 2005

Plan for Living

DAY TWO: Deepen Your Yoga Practice

Like most things, what we get out of a yoga practice depends on what we put in. Today, figure out what you liked about learning yoga, and take our quiz to determine which type of yoga best suits you. See how you can work it into your life. Really make a plan and, more importantly, make a commitment to stick to your plan. Dust off your Mind-Body Commitment Contract that you signed six weeks ago and remind yourself of those goals. Remember, balance is a continual process.

A teacher I admire recommends keeping a mat right by your bed, so you can literally roll onto the mat. You might be surprised to find that committing to just five minutes of yoga in the morning will grow into a longer practice. When you're on the mat, you'll feel good and you won't want to stop right away. Even if you truly only have five minutes, the movement will invigorate and center you, preparing you for the day.

If you're having trouble staying motivated, look into signing up for a yoga class with a friend. Or sign up for a series of classes with a clear beginning and end date. The thought of wasting money on a class if you don't go might be enough to get you out the door on a regular basis.

For now, return to the practices from Week Two. Practice your sun salutations or, if looking to wind down, engage in some restorative poses that we learned on Day Five.
