Hi. I'm a newly diagnosed diabetic and the only information I've received was a sheet of paper with the heading "Diabetic Diet Plan" There was no plan in there. It had a short list of low carbohydrate foods, free foods and some exchanges for casseroles and such but it doesn't explain what to do with the info on the paper.
I've been told the key is low carbs and I'm really trying to watch but I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. One of my problems is, I don't like cooked vegetables except potatoes and whole kernel corn. I've never eaten cooked vegetables. I do like some raw veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, turnips, mushrooms, peas.
Any suggestions on how to eat healthier for a diabetic with what's listed above. I'd also be willing to try any new ideas for cooking some vegetables so they don't taste like veggies. I know I'm probably dreaming on that one though.
The day I was diagnosed I checked my blood sugar before I went to bed and it was 339. I was diagnosed 2 days ago and since then my sugars have been between 271 & 408. I know I need to get it down and fast and I am trying but it's so frustrating and a little stressful feeling like I've got a time bomb waiting to go off and I'll end up in a coma before I can get it down.
