Hi!! New Here!!

For about the past 2-3 months I have been having pain in only one hip. It is only painful when it is in a certain postition. Otherwise I am fine, with no pain.

I exercise regularly, weight lifting and walking. Also have noticed limited movement in the joint. From what I have read, it sounds like that is what it is.

So I need to go into the doctors to have it taken care of or can I just what and see if it gets worse??????????????

Would appreciate any helpful info.................

Hi Tiny...

I'd say go to your doctor and ask for an x-ray of your hip. If it's OA, there's lots you can do to slow it down. But it might not be your hip. Back problems often start as hip pain. In fact, there are a whole host of things that can start as hip pain.

But most likely, you are right in that it's OA. Early treatment can slow it...almost stop it. Physical therapy can restore the lost motion, medications can slow the course. sometimes, just learning how to move it differently can mean a world of difference.

So I vote for a doctor's visit!

Jenny

Hi Tiny and welcome to the board. I agree with Jenny, a doctors visit is in order. I have the occasional hip pain and when I do I do an exercise that Debbie told me about. She is our CL but is out right now with an injury. OK stand and put the sole of the foot of the injured hip on the inside of the leg you are standing on . Put that foots arch area at about the middle of the inside of the knee. You will be standing like this, kind of like a 4. Then press down slightly on the knee . I always feel something pop in there and then I am much better. I also take Glucosamine Sulfate for joint pains, it is an OTC supplement found at Walmart or groc. stores. I take one 1000 mg capsule twice per day and it does help. It takes time though 5 to 6 weeks to work so be patient. Good to have you here and hope you feel better . Lia

Hi Tiny and welcome to the board. There's a lot of over the counter herbs, etc. that will help, but I would also go to the dr. to make sure that it is OA. A good exercise that has been around forever that always helped me with my hips was to lay flat on the floor with arms straight out to your sides and raise your leg straight up in the air as far as you can then try to touch your hand on the opposite side. This always helped me. But I don't think I would try it until I saw the dr. to make sure it is not in your back. If it is coming from your back or somewhere else. You don't want to hurt something else trying to help that one area. Good luck and take care. Glad you came to visit and hope to see you around alot now that you found us. Myrna

Yes, see an orthopedist or a rheumatologist--sooner rather than later.
When I had hip pain I thought it meant my hip was wearing out. The
orthopedist x-rayed and said it was my back. Specific exercises have
helped.
