For those of you that are taking Fosamax, do you have any bad side effects?  I was told today that I could have a pretty severe reflux reaction on the day I take it (once a week) since I do have GERD.  I had a bone density test almost a month ago and found out that I do have osteoporosis.  My doctor is recommending the med and would switch to Boniva if the Fosamax side effects become a problem.  I'm not sure about taking Boniva either.  I think my doctor mentioned something about a 3-month injection for that.  I guess Reclast would be her last resort.

Thank you.

Hi Calley and welcome!

I found this information about Fosamax and GERD: http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/osteoporosis-drug-amp-gerd.html

Boniva is taken orally also, but only once a month. The only advantage I see to using Boniva is that the esophagus may get more chance to recover from any irritation in between doses. Reclast is given by infusion several times a year, I believe.

Be sure to let your doctor know if you do have any reaction to the medication. Good luck and keep in touch.

Thanks, Becky, for that link.  The more I read the less I want to try any of these meds.  It's scary to see the side effects.  I'm definitely not going to "jump into" taking this.
