I was on Mirtazapine since Sep. 8, 2009. I moved from 30mg to 45mg about 1 and 1/2 weeks ago. But since Oct. 31, 2009 I've been completely off the Mirtazapine (Remeron) and haven't really noticed any issues. Was I on it for such a short time that it doesn't matter that I just quit it cold turkey? I am 25 years old, male, and when the Mental Health Services doctors asked me how I was doing on the med, I told them that I felt neither positive or negative from it.

BTW, the reason I stopped was cuz on Oct. 30th I was called and told that my Liver Function tests were abnormal, so I stopped all my supplements, multi-vitamin, and the anti-depressant (just in case).

Yikes! I have seen first hand what stopping an antidepressant can do to a human when stopping immediately.

Hopefully it is b/c it is new to your system is why you're not showing any effects. But I was on an anti-depressant for about 6 weeks & started to have major allergic reactions. My doc would not let me just stop, but instead moved me over to another similar type of drug to try to let me wean off of it, if need be.

Sometimes it is not obvious to you of the changes, but it might be seen by family members and other loved ones. You may want to ask with an open heart.

I personally would suggest you call your doc & let him/her know what you've done. I understand your reasoning, honestly I do, my brother died of Hep-C, but I've also lived through the damage from when my H did not wean off of an anti-depressant as well. Four years later and we have not recovered emotionally.

I hope they can find what is wrong with your liver and are able to help you through it. Our liver usually can repair itself with time & care.

Peace

My psych doc. is on vacation now, but I mentioned it to another doctor, and so far things are okay. I will speak with them again on either Monday or Tuesday.

Thank You for your reply and your story, I appreciate it.

All meds affect each of us differently. From my personal experience & those reported by others to this board, problems going off antidepressants cold-turkey are usually encountered after a long period of time. I had difficulty stopping effexor after 3 years.
If you're doing ok, then GREAT! Remeron is a little different in chemistry & may not be as difficult to get off of, as opposed to SSRI's which seem to give ppl the most trouble.
Will you be starting a new med? Did the dr. feel your liver function tests were the result of the remeron? It is entirely possible, something else may have caused the liver tests to be high. If you need too, you ought to see a medical dr. to have this all sorted out. GL &GBU! (((hugs))) jan
