I decided that I'm going to go back on effexor.  My doctor thinks that I wasn't ready to come off and I should probably continue to be treated for my depression/anxiety.  I wanted to see if I would physically go "back to normal" before going back on but I guess that's not going to happen.  I'm still experiencing dizziness and fatigue.  Now I'm concerned with feeling the side effects again from going back on effexor.  I'm afraid that physically I'm never going to feel the same again - sort of scary.  How long does it normally take for the medication to get out of your system before you stop feeling all of the withdrawal side effects?  Just curious for when/if I go off of effexor again.

The norm seems to be 6 weeks for the meds to get into our system and 6 weeks to leave our system.  I  know that it is hard to get off of these meds, but if we need them, I've accepted that I may have to take them long term.

Alot of folks have taken AD meds while pg.  If the mom needs them, it seems to be accepted to take them.  If you're not doing well, your pregnancy could suffer.  Next time you have a GYN appointment, discuss this with your doc so you can make an informed decision when the time comes.

I'm hoping you feel better in a couple of days -- thanks for the update!

Hugs,

i was weaned off 300mg over a period of 9 week's.  this was done by my former psychiatrist.  med never worked for me and ove the course of almost 3 yrs. of being on it i had gotten so dibiltatingly nauseaus that i told the dr. to wean me off.  had an endoscopy and ended up w/ ileitis from the effexor.  i was told by another psychiatrist that 9 week's was a slow wean off perod.  i have ended up w/horrendous withdrawal from the effexor.  flu like symptom's and burning hot for close to 5 month's since i first started the wean off process.  even the manufacturer of effexor said that these are withdrawal symptom's.  have been reevaluated and have no depression but have the withdrawal symptom's.  they give a low dosage of proaz for this but i cannot tolerate even 2.5mg as i get bad panic which is a prozac side effect.  i am living in hell.

I hear you...I'm usually one of those people who's perpetually freezing but since I've started trying to kick this stuff I am on fire all the time--it's just awful!
