So, here goes..... What supplements are recommended for TTC with PCOS and which ones should be avoided? Soy? EPO? Vitex? I'm currently taking my prenatal, Omega-3, Calcium/Magnesium and Cranberry (the last 2 are supposed to increase the chances of having a girl). I've just begun cycle #3 of TTC.

Please help!

Looks pretty good to me.  Make sure that your pre-natel has 1000mcg Folic Acid.  If it dosen't, get some.  Vit D 3 is good.  Red Raspberry leaf tea does countless wonderful things.  No on the soy Vitex and EPO.  None of these should be taken while pg or three months before.  Make sure you are getting enough good protein and fats and no bad carbs.  Eat something every three hours.  ++++++++++++++thoughts!  Laura

Thanks, Laura. I appreciate your knowledge! However, I am curious - why no on soy, EPO and Vitex? I have heard that these are common TTC supplements and have seen many women on different messages boards using them. Is this just a no for PCOS women, or in general, and if so, why?

TIA!

Glad to help.  OK, first off it is best to be on as little as possible when ttcing and when pg, especailly if you are not under a docs care.  I have to say that I was wrong about the Vitex.  Yes, that can help when ttcin, but I think it is important to stop it when you get pg unless you are under doc suppervision.  There are too many conflicting reports about the Vitex, so I would make sure to stop it when pg.

EPO can help with good cervical fluid however you need to chart so your know when you ovulate so you can stop taking it when you do.  Very important.  I recommend baby carrots, they can really help with cervical fluid with no risks.

Soy, well, I think it is very important to avoid most soy period, but especially for us.  Below are some links to explain.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Take care, Laura

I am not sure if this link will work.  You can just go to

http://www.mercola.com and put soy in his search engine and get a ton

of info.

mid cycle surges of leutinizing hormones and suppressing FSH. Both can

lead to the body getting confused about when and how to ovulate.
