Hi,
I got the results of a blood test recently and the doctor told me I could have PCOS, as my hormone levels came back weird. Also my periods have been off noticeably since returning after I had my third child. A normal cycle for me is every 34 days like clockwork. It's been that way for almost 4 years, since I decided to chart after my eldest son was born.

My husband and I don't plan on having anymore kids.

I'm just a little confused. My doctor "thinks" it might be PCOS. I went for another blood test, testing for male hormone, mostly. She mentioned diabetes, which I now know can be related. But also mentioned that I am fertile.... so I'm wondering... either it wasn't an issue before just recently. Or it was but didn't affect my fertility.

I will have a proper diagnosis by Friday I believe, but for now I sorta want to know what I'm dealing with, in the event that I do have PCOS.

I'm not overweight. My BMI is sitting at 21, which is on the lower end of the "normal" range. But what's scaring me is the possibility of diabetes or pre-diabetes, along with weight gain.

I know I sound horribly vain, don't I?

Hi there and welcome! Well, I am not sure what is happening. Yeah it could be PCOS, but then again not. Yes, we have about a 40% higher risk of diabetes, but if you treat the PCOS the risk goes down. It is believed that the core issue of PCOS is IR, insulin resistance. Some call this pre-diabetes, but it does not necessarily mean that you will get diabetes. I am curious how she figured that you were fertile. You have been temping, do you have a chart on line that I could check out? AS far as fertility goes, it is just one possible symptom, some of us have babies like normal. For some the IF doesn't come until later. The same goes for weight issues, only about half of us have the symptom. It is also something that can come later. However, it does not mean that you will have weight issues.

No, you are not vain. It sounds like you are concerned about your health. PCOS is a syndrome which means it is diagnosed by symptoms. The curious thing I find here is that you don't seem to have any of the symptoms. Would love to see your blood work. There are definitely clues that can help diagnose, but usually there is some kind of physical manifestation. A 34 day cycle, unless you are not ovulating, can still be normal. Well, I am curious to learn more. Let me know what your doc says. All and all, though, PCOS can be treated, although there is not cookie cutter plan, each of us has a different treatment plan. There is no reason to believe that you can't do it. Take care and +++++++++thoughts! Laura
