Has anybody tried Yaz for PMDD? It came out a little while ago. It is a very low dose birth control pill. Women who were in the clinical trial who had PMDD had less symptoms when they took Yaz as compared to a placebo (sugar pill).

I went to this doctor recently about a rash and somehow we got to talking about my PMDD and he said all his patients with PMDD were on Yaz. He said it might change my life.

I had asked my internist to put me on Yaz back in June and she said she would think about it. She is like this with most things--very cautious.

I am due to start sometime around the 14th of Sept. Then I start taking the Yaz the Sunday after my period starts. I am really kinda freaked about it because I read the leaflet that comes with the pills and it sounds like it could make all my symptoms worse. I am especially worried about headaches. I get severe migraines before and during my period and birth control pills can make headaches worse. Also, since I am 46 the chance of major problems like blood clots are a huge worry. But, this new doctor looked at me and said yes there are risks but you are really suffering with this PMDD. He is soooooooo right.

I am anxious worried and hopeful all at the same time.

Peace

MDS

I am considering talking to my gyn next week about this. (I'm seeing her about another issue...) I have been reading that Yaz is being used to help treat PMDD symptoms, and am starting to become more intrigued with the idea.

The thing that makes me nervous... I had been on a few BCPs before Vilija came along, and the mood swings were just horrid. That was way before I even had PMDD. So, I'm apprehensive about it... but am almost willing to try the Yaz just out of desperation.

Good luck to you, I hope that it's your miracle!

I took BCPs many , many years ago and they gave me strange headahces. I don't think they affected my moods. I am so skeptical at this point I worry that my attitude will hinder the effects of the hormones...

Its just that nothing ever works so I have this attitude that nothing ever will. But I have to be positive and give the Yaz a chance. I hope it helps but if it does not...I guess I won't be too dissapointed or surprised.

And, like you, I am desperate at this point.

Thanks,

MDS
