Hello everyone (Hi Beckey! <3). I'm Julianna from the San Francisco Bay Area. I have two kids, Allie is 6 and Zachary just turned 3 yesterday.

I'm having a hard time writing this, so maybe I'll just post in bits and pieces, but I need to be here. I've noticed over the last several months that I'm getting much more "moody" (understatement) during my period and around ovulation. I feel anxious, angry, depressed, overwhelmed, on the verge of crying, easily sent from one emotion to the next. And I'm tired of it. I hate feeling that way.

My friend says it could be related to weaning (Beckey?). I can see how sudden weaning could do that, but we had gotten down to once a day for quite a long time.

I have an appt with my OB in a couple weeks to talk with her about this. Not sure if I only need some BC pills or some ADs.

Weaning, even gradual can cause some emotional ups and downs.  It's similiar to the post partum period with hormonal changes.  And because of the hormonal shifts, you might feel more pms-y than usual for a month or two.  But it probably shouldn't go on for months like that.  And if you've noticed it seems to be related to the phases of your cycle - you should talk to your Dr.  I can't remember how old you are, but if you're in your mid to late 30's you may also be having the first symptoms of pre-menopause makes premenstrual symptoms worse for some of us.  A low dose bcp can help relieve some of those symptoms.  ADs help some with PMDD, but not others and in some cases make things worse.

I'm 35. And I think the symptoms are getting worse. Or maybe I'm just more aware of it. But if feels like I come out of this whirlwind of emotions. It starts a couple days before my period and lasts a couple days beyond. The symptoms at ovulation are less, but noticeable. It's not as "manic" and lasts a shorter amount of time.

I got my dx. I saw my OB on Thursday and she said it sounds like PMDD with underlying depression. She wanted to refer me to a psych, but I decided to try Yazmin (the PMDD BC) first and see what that does. If after 6 weeks I don't see a difference, then I'll go to psych and talk it out with them.
