:o)  Healing Touch 1 class was wonderful.  :o)  There were only three students in the class, which is half of the instructor's minimum six, but she had agreed to do it anyway, and was most gracious about it.  Two helpers were there:  the coordinator and a woman working on her Level 5 hours.  The other two students were also Reiki practitioners, and I think both were Reiki II.  I know for sure that one of them is also working on her Reiki III training.

We used the Healing Touch:  A Guide for Practitioners book which I'd bought a year ago and read then and was already using to some degree with my family.  The class was centered around the work of Brugh Joy.  She told the story of HT, and the story of Janet Mentgen.

Much of the learning over the weekend was review and clarification for me.  I was very pleased to learn the migraine techniques and to find out what I was doing incorrectly.  We covered that on Sunday morning.  I discovered that I'm coming in on the spike way too close to the head, so probably nowhere near the end of it.  She used one of the helpers as a model (having offered to use Ice Dancer, but unfortunately, Heather had to work that day), and the helper's last migraine had been seven or eight months ago, she said.  Her residual spike ended up being a good fifteen feet away from her, though, which was fascinating, since we all thought the instructor would be working on a pretend spike, and there was an actual one there.  It took a good thirty minutes for her to work through that energy.  I feel much more confident now that I can be of assistance when Ice Dancer gets her next one, and we are going to try to bring her residual spike down (assuming there is one) and maybe eliminate another migraine in the near future.  She had three the week before last.  :o(

It was fun to be in a class with other people and to practice.  How relaxing and delightful to be engaged in learning something that requires practicing the technique, and being the recipient of someone else's practice!  LOL

We covered the seven step sequence and received intake forms for copying to use,
magnetic passes:  hands in motion and hands still, the magnetic clearning, the chakra connection 2:1, 1:1, and self, the ultra sound, laser, wound healing, and pain ridge/spike, as well as what to do for sinus headaches, tension headaches, and migraine headaches.  We also covered the Scudder technique, mind clearing, and the chakra spread.  Our instructor talked about the various levels of HT with us, and she ended the class by reviewing the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Practice.

Right now, I can't say whether or not I'll go on to Level II.  It's possible.  The entire concept of energy therapy resonates with me in ways I cannot fully articulate.  The idea of seeing it through to certification is a little overwhelming.  I'm not sure I need it with the Reiki on one hand.  On the other hand (no pun intended, LOL), I've never been one to do anything half way, and the additional training and practice hours with a medically endorsed program would lend validity to what I do with people like my Head of Staff who need that sort of thing.  If I continue to be required to pay for my training out of personal funds and take vacation time to get it, it will take me a minimum of two more years (and possibly three) to get through the levels, and who knows where I'll be at that point in my life, so it may come in handy should I leave pastoral ministry for whatever reason and decide to open my own practice.  I'm thinking right now I'll just take one step at a time, and I can't take Level II before next year, so I'm not going to make that decision yet.

My mom might be coming around a little bit.  I'm hoping so.  I'm thinking that Reiki could be of benefit to her with her fibromyalgia.  School starts here this week, so Cowboy will be in class all day and All Star and Brooke and Ice Dancer will be at work and school day and evening.  I'm thinking about stopping at the nursing home in our hometown to see about offering Reiki to residents there once a week.  It means I'm less likely to run into folks who are involved or might become involved at the church I serve because of the distance (which isn't much, but enough to be safe, I think).  I'm going to get us into the swing of things with the school year, and then decide how to approach that.  I don't even know if it's possible, but I figure it can't hurt to ask.

It was a good weekend, and I'm really glad I took the class.  :o)  Just thought I'd share~

    I can't believe that I missed this!!!

That training session sounds so very interesting, Geo. Wow. Is there any preventative treatment that you could give Ice Dancer so that she doesn't get migraines in the first place?

It sounds like a wise decision to not decide on anything right now, and to take steps when you are ready to do so. When the time is right, the doors will open and you will know what to do next.

I didn't know that your mother has FM. Has she tried using guided imagery? Hmm... didn't we have this conversation a couple of years ago? Were you able to get her to listen to the stress (or sleep) imagery? I read these two articles the other day:

Mindfulness Reduces Stress Arousal in Fibromyalgia Patients
Is There a Connection Between Fibromyalgia and Traumatic Stress?

Thanks so much for sharing this with us!!

Very interesting, but I have a question... say you were to go into practice & had a client w/ a 15 foot energy spike, I doubt your room would be large enough to actually go that far back, what would you do?

Good question.  We asked that, too.  We were told that we can set our intention to come in at the end of the spike if we can't get to it physically.  I haven't tried it yet, but I'll let you know if that happens.

Well, aside from her seeing the therapist I'm BEGGING her to see, you mean?  Probably some energy work around the solar plexus chakra and possibly around the heart chakra as well.  The first, of course, being the center for self-esteem and the second being the one that focuses forgiveness and unconditional love.  Grace is not her strong point.  Perfectionism is a problem.  I'm thinking if she could see herself as a beautiful and beloved child of God, and release herself from such impossible expectations -- which I believe she believes makes up for her perceived lack of outer beauty -- she might also release others from impossible expectations, and be able to relax a little and therefore reduce stress.  It's a thought I have ......

Yes, my mom has FM, but if drugs don't do it, Pops, she isn't interested.  She's so doctor/hospital/drugs oriented it makes me insane.  She *does* OCCASIONALLY see a chiropractor and a massage therapist, but as a rule, she doesn't listen when I talk about alternative therapies.  She's only starting to show any interest in Reiki, so I'm not pushing.  She had told me she didn't want to discuss it with me, so I'm waiting for her to ask.  She asked a few questions after the HT training, so perhaps the door is opening.  I just don't think she can wrap her head around the possibility that energy therapy could be helpful with a number of things any more than she can wrap her head around the possibility that chiropractic can be helpful for a number of issues.  Her life revolves around doctor appointments and she has a pharmacy in the cabinet.  @@

I'm trying to be patient with both of them ..... some days that isn't easy ...... ;o)
