I hate winter. I am always cold, can't drive in the snow, always cold. i gain too much weight, which then depresses me even more.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

I go through this every year and every year it is the same thing. I start overeating in September, and it lasts through may and sometimes early june. All i want to do is sleep, and honestly, i could care less if i ever made it outside until it heats back up again.

the only thing that i want is to be warm again.

Hi Echo

Welcome to SAD.  I am not a medical person but it sounds like you have SAD.  It started with me that way a long time ago.  Fall comes and everything looks dead and the last thing I want to do is leave the house.  I would suggest though to get some sun everyday and find a hobby that you can keep your mind focused on.  There are some natural things you can take for this and one that isnt' on our list is called Inositol.  I have started my yearly dosage and I am starting to feel a little better.  AS far as the eating thing goes, getting a little natural light everyday will help and also maybe writing down what your eating will help, then you will shee what your doing.

Come back anytime and we can try to help...

Good luck

Lynn

Melatonin
St. John's Wort
Vitamin D

The Inositol I was talking about is a B vitamin.  I don't know how well the others work.  Let us know.

Welcome to the board Echo!

You certainly have some of the classical symptoms of SAD..the weight gain, overeating, lack of energy, depression.  What types of treatments have you tried so far?  By far the most successful therapy (for most) is natural light therapy.  So, even though you don't WANT to, it's really important that you get yourself outside for a little bit each day....I've heard early morning is best!  Exercise can be helpful too, not only to help burn those extra calories you may be taking in, but also because it produces a sort of "high" in many many people.  Just try to make it something fun and that gets your heartbeat up a little.  I recently joined Curves, and I think it is helping my symptoms a little.  It's 3 times a week for 30 minutes, and I can definitely tell a difference in my energy level on the days that I go.

I hope to see you posting again!  Maybe together we can figure out a way to make this time of year a little more bearable!

Liz
