Hi,

I am new here. I just found this board today. I am wondering if anyone is using a light for light therapy and what effects the user is feeling.

My mother just bought me a light box as an early Christmas present and im on day 4 or so and am feeling better. I am a 31 year old single female with a past experience of anxiety and a few panic attacks. I have been to several doctors who prescribed me tons of different anti-depressants but nothing change my fatigue. I have been off medication for about 3 years but still feel that slump during the winter months. This year and last I found myself more irritable then ever before and craving sweets like you wouldnt believe. I would go home and eat and eat like a bottomless pit. I exercise daily both walks on lunch and the gym at night so I dont have a weight problem, but I sure didnt want to gain weight and found myself turning to food.

I am trating myself with the light box since I can not find any doctors around here that my insurance would cover. I figured the $250.00 investment (gift from mom) would be a small price to pay if it did help as compared to those physiatric prices they charged and didnt help.

I find myself not as grumpy and negative and find myself more in control of my eating compared to several days ago. I use the light box for about 30 minutes both day and night since I am unsure as to the exact directions. I do have a dull headache but have read that should subside within a few days. SO far so good.

Maybe you can find a doctor that offers light therapy and try it out before you purchase one of you own. I just took a chance and bought one of my own since the symptoms fit me to the T and I read testimonals of people that bought the box and had amazing resluts.

I will be happy to answer any more ?'s you have.

Joanne

Joanne,

Can you tell me what brand of lightbox you are using?  I'm seriously considering getting one because this year my symptoms have reached an all-time high.  I am in bed almost every night by 8:30 and no matter how much sleep I get I am still tired.  Plus I'm eating like a complete pig!

Sure its called brite lite III and is made by apollo. go under their website and its on sale for $249.00. you will notice a difference if you were anything like me. Although I still have a bit of a headache im not sure if its due to sinus problems or the light. I have reduced my time to just 30 min or so in the morning after I wake up. It does help, at least with the cravings and irritability. Let me know how it works out for you.
What part of the country do you live?
Best of luck,
Joanne
