Hi, I am new to ivillage. I was wondering what things can I add to improve my health condition of Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome also known as CFS? I do a lot of research, Read and watch a wellness program with Dr. Richard Becker on T.V. So I already know about omega3, wild oil of oregano, probiotics, Co Q10, Glucosamine, garlic, apples and pineapple but I was wondering if you might know of some other things. I also know that caffeine, too much sugar, and soda can make fatigue worse. I also know about relaxation techniques and the calming effects of lavender and chamomile. I am not sure but I think that even some nutrition information that you might have on MS might be worth a try. I have friends that have MS and although it is a different illness there are some similarities in our symptoms so I don't think that it would hurt to try all natural things as well as diet to see if it helps. At this point I am very open to trying new things that might help to improve my symptoms. Please help if you can.

Hi, I had chronic fatigue (I wasn't officially labeled with CFS though) and foot and knee pain for 10 years until I found something on the web that said gluten can cause these symptoms. I've since given it up and my fatigue and pain are gone now. I don't take any special supplements other than multivitamins and probiotics and sometimes evening primrose oil too. Gluten is wheat, barley, and rye. So, normal breads, pasta, cookies, cake, etc, and even some yogurts are off limits. It was very tough to stick to at first, but being pain and fatigue free is worth the sacrifice. I felt better almost immediately. If you try it though, I would give it at least a month to see how it goes. There's a link at the top of the board to the Celiac Disease board. I think you will find some useful info there as fatigue and other illnesses intermingle with celiac disease and gluten intolerance. Just my two cents. Hope you find something that works for you and please post if you go gluten free. I would love to hear whatever you find that works for you as it will probably help someone else in the future too.

Hi and welcome,

Racejunkie gave you a great advice, and it's totally worth giving a try. I would try to focus on eating unprocessed and balanced first and then add maybe a vitamin supplement, but not go overboard with all type of natural supplements.
I don't have any experience with chronic fatigue, but I would guess that making 5-6 smaller meals a day is better than 3 big meals and 2 snacks a day too, it keeps the energy supply level and going.

Hi, racejunkie! thanks for the advice a for responding to my message. I don't know if I can give up some of those things that you mentioned to be honest. But I can scale back on them. Because I am also Diabetic I think that I probably don't eat a lot of those things that are no good for me anyway. I can't say that I can go completely gluten free but I will definitely make an effort. I have seen some gluten free cookbooks at the library. I will check them out and read up on the gluten free diet and see what I can come up with. I appreciate your help. To be honest I thought that I posted my message to the nutritionist. My bad LOL! Have a great day! Take care

Hi, cl-cynhaller! Thank you for replying to my message. I already follow a healthy diet. I do take a good variety of vitamins and supplements. I am as physically active as my body will allow me to be. I also already eat smaller meals throughout the day like you recommended because it is the best way to manage my Diabetes. Having multiple illnesses just seems to take a major toll on my body even though I am doing all the right things. When you have so many different things going on it is hard to catch a break. Each time I attempt to address and treat one of my medical problems it alters and aggravates one of my other problems. It is very frustrating. I have tried numerous treatments and medications as well as alternative medicine and natural options, I have also gone through therapy been hospitalized several times and unfortunately everything that I have tried has failed.Let me tell you the full story so that you can get a better picture of what is going on. Then maybe you might be able to give me some other ideas to try. I have Asthma, Anxiety, Bipolar, CFIDS, Diabetes, Dysmenorrhea,GERD,Migraines, Permanent damage to my neck and back, Planteritis,PTSD. I am also an abuse survivor. I have experienced symptoms that can not be explained by any of the medical conditions that I have mentioned. I need to see a nuerlogist specialist and have several test done. However I am not able to do so. Due to the fact that I am ill I am not able to work. And I was unable to finish my education. I am not able to claim disability. That is a long story that I will skip. I don't have any insurance. That is another long story that I will skip. I am married and my husband's income disqualifies us from recieving any aid or assistance. That's another long messed up story that I will skip. I believe in God, faith and hope. Some way some how I am going to get through this. Inspite of all my problems and my current circumstances I am a fighter with a passion for life! If you have any input for me I would really like to hear it. Well that's all for now. Until next time take care. By the way that baby of yours looks like an angel.
