When I was on the brand name brand, it worked very well for me. Since I've been buying the generic version, however, it's been knocking me out with drowsiness more times than it doesn't. I know that generic versions have to have the same active ingredients as the brand names, but the other ingredients can be different. I'm wondering if Allegra has something extra in it to not cause drowsiness or if the generic has something in it that causes drowsiness?

The last few times I've taken the generic version over the past month, I've been having really horrible, gruesome dreams. I'm talking some really bad dreams that I don't want to even talk about because that's how bad they were. I never noticed it with the brand name before. Plus, I wake up with no energy whatsoever when I really need to have the energy to get things done. I don't take antihistamines very often anymore. When I do, it's mostly children's benadryl at night to help me sleep sometimes and sometimes I'll have kind of weird or funny dreams with that, but nothing bad. Zyrtec knocks me out could, so I'm going back to Claritin for awhile. If I have to, I'll go back to the brand name Allegra and pay out of pocket for them. Ouch! Has anyone noticed any weird side effects with antihistamines?

Haha, guess what? I looked up the tablets I have on webmd and it turns out I have the brand name Allegra and not the generic version after all. I guess my body just doesn't like them anymore. I'll have to save those for really bad allergies like spring pollen season and maybe I can get some children's 30mg fexofenadine for occasional use when I need it.

Does anyone have any alternative treatments for allergies, besides environmental controls and neti pots?

Wow! Thats one wierd sudden side effect! Just the wierd dreams would be enough for me to stop taking it, that's what I did after 3 days of Singulair and quite a few horrible or disturbing dreams, something that mess up with my mind is bad news in my book.

I have no idea about alternative allergy management methods you could try appart from these two, maybe if you take allegra at a lower dosage it would lessen the side effects?
