Who out there thinks that the products we use on a daily basis is making us and our children sick? By sick, I mean causing allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems, eczema and, dare I say, cancer! I attended an online seminar about this and am having a hard time believing what they say. I'd love to know your thoughts.

Doesn't surprise me much, not only most of these cleaning products are loaded with harsh chemicals, they also have strong scents that never fail triggering an asthma attack if I use them in rooms with no ventilation.
On top of everything most have strong antibacterial agents, while needed in hospital it has no room whatsoever in one's home in my opinion, killing all known germs around you and your familly actually does more harm than good since your immune system will never build up deffence against these bug and make you sicker the day you come in contact with them in a less "sterile" environement.

All we have in our house is good old plain water and a wipe, a glass cleaner to clean the table (though vinegar would work great if I could find some regularly) and the maid sometimes use clorox in water to mop the floors, but not always and most of the time we actually forget to buy some LOL. We clean everything regularly so that dirt doen't build up which result in us not needing any strong cleaner.

I'm sort of on the fence about this one, but thought I would chime in and give my two cents :)

As far as cleaning products go, I use vinegar and water for lots of things, plus I use palmolive to clean the tile in the bathroom, the toilet, I use it to clean windows (I use a dab on a rag and work up a little lather with water and then squeegee it clean), and even as a bug killer in my garden. I know some will say the antibacterial stuff in it is bad and blah, blah, blah, but I've found it to work well for most cleaning issues. On the floors, I use Shark steam mop and occasionally use a little bleach (usually if the dogs have an accident or something). I know people on both sides of the extremes, those who overdo it with the chemicals and others who are afraid to use anything without getting cancer, etc. I guess I'm just the average person when it comes to this stuff.

I bet that online seminar wanted to sell you a line of cleaning products. If so, take a step back and ask yourself, what intentions do these people really have. If they're hocking products, they just want your money. Period. If they gave you ideas of cleaning products you can make at home using common things like vinegar, then I say try it out. I've seen all kinds of stuff out there listed as "organic, all natural," etc, when there's really nothing special about those products. They're wallets are getting fatter and they're laughing all the way to the bank at our expense.

Instead of cleaning products, I believe it's the lack of exercise and the food that we eat that causes most of those illnesses you mentioned in your post. These days, people are very much overweight and they live out of fast food joints, boxes, bags, etc, when they really need to ditch all the packaged food and all the chemicals found in them and go for the fresh foods and get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day, every day.

Just my two cents.

Organic cleaning products? Seriously? Wow some companies would really go to great length to sell their products!

The only thing that all natural (and I don't care if it is organic) is vinegar, and the cheapest one is enough to clean stuff around.

I like the palmolive thing to kill bug in the garden, when my potted plants have issues with bugs I generally spray soapy water on them.

Wow, your baby is growing up so fast already! (I tried typing her name in, but ivillage blocked me saying her name is "objectionable." What?!! Maybe ivillage can add her name to their dictionary or list of words that are ok to use. LOL. I mean really!!) She is so adorable! Love the new pics in your siggy. I'll check out your blog. How is your visit with your mom? Hope all is well. Hugs.
