I hope i'm posting this in the right place. I know that only a doctor can diagnose me but I thought that i'd ask some people who know what i'm going through. about 3 years ago, i started having chest tightness when I was at my old job. We were re-constructing our warehouse we worked in and there was a lot of metal cutting going on. Every time that someone would cut into a certain metal gridding, my chest would immediatly tighten up. I didn't go to the doctor for it till about 2 years later. It comes and goes. Sometimes I'll get it a few times a month and others only once a month. I've even had where I went months without feeling any symptoms. Lately for the last 2 days, my chest has had some mild tightness and discomfort in it. I've noticed that it starts when I go into a really smokey room as I do hotel cleaning and can't really avoid it. I've got constant sniffles/stuffy noses and i do cough a lot in general but they are dainty coughs and nothing serious. All of that has happened year round for the last year though. I'm not sure if this is all allergies, asthma, or a mixture of both. Anyone got any ideas? The doctor listened to my lungs when i went in about 6 months ago and he said I had "bronchial spasms" and gave me an albuterol inhaler and told me that if it didnt go away then to come back in and he'd give me a chest xray. I definitely will be going in asap but i just wanted some input first please :)
thanks for you time everyone!

Hi and welcome

Bronchial spasm can be anything, and this is typically the type of diagnosis a generalist will give, I would strongly advise you to get to see an allergist or lung specialist to get a proper diagnosis.

I think it could be a mix of asthma and allergies, and going for a chest X-ray will in all likeness show nothing, unless you had a few really bad asthma attacks that left some scaring in the lungs.
Albuterol is a medicine that is used only in time of emergencies (meaning during an attack or when symptoms are felt) typically it brings fast relief to congested tightened lungs, it shouldn't be used regularly, and the rule of thumb for asthmatics is that if you use it more that 3 times a week it means your asthma isn't properly controlled.
Asthma need in some cases to be controlled with "maintenance" meds such as inhaled corticosteroids and avoidance of triggers, which can be anything from an allergen to just a strong smell or an irritant airborne particle (doesn;t have to be an allergen, just big enough to irritate one's lung), exercise, cold air...The first few months after being diagnosed with asthma are what I call the "tailoring months" because during that time you work as a team with your Dr to adjust the treatment to just the right level, learn to identify your own personal trieggers (we all have different things that sets us off), how to avoid or manage these triggers and go back to living a symptom free life.

Keep us posted on how things are going ok?
