I thought this was interesting. Here's what some of us are going to get. Frankly I don't think $13 dollars extra a paycheck is going to help anyone.

So here's what's in the latest version of the 2009 Stimulus for you as of 2/13/09:

  • Tax cuts: $500 income tax cut for singles, $1,000 for couples...which comes to roughly $13 per week in your pay check, depending on your income
  • For the unemployed: another $25 a week, plus an additional 3 to 6 months in benefits
  • For a Family on Food Stamps: roughly another $79 a month
  • For Seniors on Social Security: A one time check of $250
  • For New Car Buyers: You can now deduct sales tax paid...but not the interest you pay each year on the loan, which was in an earlier version.  As a result, critics say there is really not much incentive to buy a car.
  • For First time home buyers: an $8,000 government tax credit that does not have to be paid back...which Realtors say will be much better than last year's $7,500 loan, which had to be paid back, and had little effect.  However, an early version that called for a much more significant $15,000 credit has been shot down.

This was as of 2/13...I don't know if it changed but you know what gets me? How about us people who paid our bills on time and paid off our mortgages....we don't get anything? I think $13 won't go far when my husband's hours were cut by 1 day. It's good for people who need food stamps and are on unemployment...and as for $250 for Seniors on SS that's great but we need more help with prescriptions. I'm still  under my husband's plan and medicare won't pay a cent toward anything now that burns me up. My co-pays are $25 for PC drs and $40 for a specialist which can really eat up what money I have since I need to see at least 3 different specialist. My prescription co-pays are even higher $15 for generics, $25  and $50 and I take about 10 meds a day. We're bailing out all these companies while the big shots are taking trips and bonuses is getting  me mad. I say give the poor joe some of that money so we can bail ourselfs out of debt. What about those of us who lost big time on our 401ks...our value of our houses have taken a nose dive and over a matter of a year I have lost more than a $100,000 in equity in my house. Yeah what about us poor joes.

Now I feel better getting that off my chest....

ITA. What about those of us that struggle to get our mortgage paid and we're not behind in payments? And I haven't heard anything about families. What about us single mothers?

People are not going to pour this money back into the economy because their retirements are suffering. People will be thinking long term. What will we live off of when we do retire? JMHO

I don't know about where you guys live but where I am all I am hearing is, "we're gonna fix this bridge and this road and yada, yada, yada.

I keep thinking about these people that are losing their jobs. Danskin closed both their plants in our county.

My dh has been unemployed since November, and is seriously thinking about retirement when he turns 65 in August.  I already did the math, and we should be okay.  I live in Charlotte, and BOFA and Wells Fargo are laying off like crazy. Plants around the area are closing up. During the last Depression everything was on paper, todays depression, everything is on the computer. It's going to get worse before it gets better.  We struggle every month to make our house payment. always late, but never behind.  Only 4 more car payments left.   That will help when we are done with that.  I hope we can sing Happy Days are here again soon.

You know Fran we were counting on selling our house when dh retires and buying another house for cash in another state where houses are cheaper and taxes are lower. I doubt that will happen now. As for my dh's 401K...he will never make up what he lost. I was smart about 3 years ago I decided to take my pension and 401k out of my company since I have been gone from there about 10yrs. I figure sooner or later they would forget about me or the company would go under. I rolled them over in a IRA and thank God I did that because that is the only money that actually made money this year. And what makes me scare is the President says things will get worse before they get better. Everything we worked for all our lives is going down the tubes. While those who bought houses that were way over their heads are now being bailed out with lower interest rates and whatnot. Just not fair. I pray for our economy to get back on track and people who have lost their jobs will find another.

I hope healthcare will be next on the President's list, especially the donut hole in Medicare Part D.    When my dh does retire will will just be able to live ok, nothing exciting like travel or even move to a better neighborhood.
