Suffice it to say, I've been there. I was actually "lucky" enough to be approved on the first try, and I put that in quotes because, although I've been in the Hospitality industry for almost forty years, much of it was spent working on contract and living on widow's benefits so my award would be laughable if it weren't terrifying. SSDI? Nope, I own my house, or the bank and I do, and have just enough in savings....well you get the picture. Anyway, why am I telling you this, right? A few months ago, SSA sent me something called a Ticket to Work. This allows us to find part time work up to the amount that will not affect our benefits, it also exempts us from constant medical reviews and re-proving our disability. I knew from the moment that I found their site that this could be a home for me and now not only is it my home at home, but I have the chance to share this opportunity with others.
