Hi all.

I think my question may be a bit strange. I have SSDI and SSI, while my fiance has SSI. We live in Missouri and get X amount of money per month for each of us. (We live together but are listed as separate households.)

Missouri has a low cost of living. We hare thinking about moving to another state. We have a few states in mind. The thing is, which the X amount of money that we are making now we wouldn't be able to make it in a state with a higher cost of living.

So...my question is...does the payments you receive have anything to do with the cost of living in your state? I can't imagine making it somewhere with a higher cost of living when we are barely keeping our head above water now.

SSDI benefits stay the same no matter where you live since it's based on your work history and how much you paid into the system.

SSI is state dependent but most states are around the same amount which in January 2009 was $674 per person or $1,011 per couple but could be less if there is other income involved such as SSDI.   Some states have a suppliment which SSI includes in the benefits check.  Here's a link that tells which state has those suppliments.   http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=85&p_created=955552261&p_sid=Dqh-R_Kj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD01OSw1OSZwX3Byb2RzPSZwX2NhdHM9NDgmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0xLjQ4JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfbmwmcF9wYWdlPTE*&p_li=&p_topview=1

Good luck with the move.
