I'm Nancy. I have mobility issues but so far thankfully I am still working, although recently there have been times I was tempted to move around the office rolling on the office chair!! I have severe arthritis apparently in both knees but its much worse in the leg that I also broke in 92. I used a walker for 5 years and finally got away from using any assistive devices. When I was recovering from the broken leg they tried to get me using a quad cane but I KEPT tripping over it and then stepping down hard on the bad leg!! So I went back to the walker. Since then from doing computer work and a couple falls, I also have carpal tunnel(holding that at bay...and part of its like carpal but its the last two fingers so its something different but feels the same); shoulder problems that come and go, really painful hands and arms at time, so in my mind, I will not willingly go back to walker because I fear it will cause more arm, shoulder and hand problems.
I am too heavy to get knee replacements and the one ortho I saw when I wrenched bad knee about 6 years ago told me to go sit in a wheelchair, electric cart or use the walker all the time.... I told my regular doctor I WILL NOT go back to him. Along with some asthma and raging shoulder problems I had slacked off my exercising program and am still trying to get my body back into doing it! I know it helps so many ways, and am thankful I can still do what I can!! I refuse to give up what it took so long to gain back(my mobility!!)
I come to this board in part because sometimes I might have information that can help others! I sometimes deal with medical people and work situations.
I have also been known to rabble rouse on disability issues, because in a way I see both sides. Most people are not intentionally keeping people from doing things, they just do not see it from the other side! So I speak up when I see businesses doing not so swift things. Like not clearing curb cuts in winter so people can get to business, etc.
