Hmmm. A very interesting perspective in this article. While I agree that making everything a rosy positive picture is probably not the best way to go, I do think there is something to be said for having a positive attitude about things.
Let me say first that I AM NOT A DOCTOR.
When feelings and emotions come up, especially strong ones, it is important to feel them and feel them fully. If you are angry, be angry! Sad, be sad. Feel your emotions full out!
But after you are done feeling them, there is no need to dwell on them forever. Sometimes anger and sadness and other emotions that we generally deem "negative" are very useful for the moment and serve as great catalysts to move us forward!
But my suggestion is that once you have felt your emotion, see if it is still serving you to hold onto it and feel it over and over again.
I'd bet that, often, it isn't.
It's important for us to feel our emotions, yes, but not so that they take over our life and create unnatural situations for us. Emotions are indicators of what's going on in our lives. They have a useful life span! But when that life span ends, let it go. Release it!
Especially as women, we have often been trained to swallow many of our emotions if they don't "play nice." I think it's important for us to express our emotions more clearly for the sake of our own health and well-being than for the sake of others'.
Feel! Feel Strongly!
