When it comes to health/diet news, studies, advice etc... who do you believe? Is the science writer in your local newspaper enough? Or do you want to hear it from one of the big medical associations? What's *enough* proof for you?

I'm thinking on this because of what I called "junk science" that got spewed at me from my ex and his current wife yesterday in talking about my son's desire to go vegan. Things like "We're worried about the amount of soy because of phyto-estrogens"- sorry, I'm just not sold on the idea that soy is bad for you if eaten in moderation. Any study that says otherwise- well, as my son is quick to point out "how paid for the study?" So I'm not really sure who I'd trust, although my gut instinct, followed by my doctor's opinion, are at the top. Conversely, anyone who think dairy products are mandatory for good help is likely to find me questioning anything he/she/hir says about health.
