someone suggested i come hear for some help and info. So hears the deal im almost 22 i have been married for just over three years. I dident start have sex tell a few days before we were married. but had done finger play(for lack of a better term) and and Oral. i never had an issue with either. four months before we were to get married i started Birth control (Dh was gone during this time) when he finally got home we started having sex and it was painful i just told m self it will take some time to get used to it. a few months later it still wasent any better so i talked to the doc he said it could be the birth conrol so i started trying different ones having to take them for three or more months before they wouldtry something different eatch kind i tried gave me more side effects it all just seemed to get worse so i stoped takng it nd decided to leave it up to fate when we have a baby. hear we are two years after i stoped taking birth control still having pain and still not prgnant. Iv been charting for the last year so i know my cycles really well their is about three-to four days before i ovulate when sex is decent and not painful or at least tollerable mostley a little paineful at inisal insertion. then after those days it goes back to hurting again its sorta a burning stinging kinda pain if your laying down its more tward the top of the entrance ocasionally it will hurt some along one of the sides. some time dh fits ok and others he had to used quite a bt of force to get in. I ask a couple docs about it and i was poked around on and told everything looked normal. and pp results and what not have come back fine. I went through some infertility testing they checked hormone levels but only once i was kinda up set that they dident check them at diferent points in my cycle. HSG was fine thyroid all that good jaz so far they havent found a reason for me not to have gotten pregnant yet and so far not exlination for the pain. someone on another board suggested i come hear that mabie some one would be able to help or give me some ideas of things to try. sorry this was so crazy long im just a little frustrated to have to tollerate sex instead of getting to enjoy it.
Hugs julie

Hi Julie!  The good news is that what you're dealing with doesn't sound like textbook vulvodynia.

You're timing sex right around ovulation, right?  Has your husband's sperm been checked out to make sure he's got good quantity and motility and all that stuff?

As far as making sex more comfortable, you're using a lubricant like Astroglide or KY Liquid, right?  If you're not, I'd start there.  You'd be surprised what a difference it can make in your comfort.  Another thing you might ask your doctor about, since sex is more comfortable in the several days before ovulation, that's when your estrogen is the highest.  It may be that if you had more estrogen at other times in your cycle that sex may be less painful, whether that's because when your estrogen is higher you lubricate better or because low estrogen can reduce your pain tolerance.  You could ask your doctor for a sample of estrogen cream to see if that helps you to use just a little bit externally for a few weeks and see if that makes a difference.

Even before I got on the pill, before I had any issues with vulvodynia at all, even then sex wasn't always comfortable.  It wasn't as uncomfortable as it  has been these last several years, but it wasn't as easy for me as it was for my friends.  And it wasn't that my estrogen was low, because I still had heavy periods.  It's one of those things I think that doesn't really have an explanation.

Good luck finding a solution!  If you get your husband checked out and nothing seems to be wrong with his swimmers, you might check with a reproductive endocrinologist and see if there's another route to take as far as getting pregnant.  Take care!

Dh atually had an SA done and i have the results but i dont understand all of it and i had to cancle the last appt with my doc when he was going to explain them to me. because we were in FL. so i still dont really know mutch from that. Iv tried seceral ifferent lubercants and they all seem to irritate me they sorta sting some times. iv even had them make things wors expecially if they turn stucky. see before i had tried birth control i had sota medium periods now they seem to be prity light i usually have a day or two of brownish spotting its not enough for a pad or tapon but too mutch for nothig at all. then it get to a red flow but i could go all day with one pad if i wanted to sometime two would be necessary fut only for the first day after that mabie one they usually last like that for about 4 days then it gets the brownish spotty again for 2-3 day before it stops. i mentioned it to the fertility doc but he dident act concerned or like it was out of the ordinary.

Since you're not using condoms, you can also try olive oil as a lubricant.  Make sure, when you are using a lubricant, that it's just a lubricant, no scents, no flavors, nothing extra, just the bare minimum.  I like Astroglide, it seems to stay fairly good for a period of time, but also don't be afraid to reapply it when it starts to dry out.

When you do use a lubricant, do you notice that you have less pain?

It does sound like your periods are pretty light, which can be a sign of low estrogen.  It doesn't explain why you're having difficulty conceiving, but it may help explain why sex is uncomfortable for you (estrogen greatly affects lubrication).

Iv never tried olive oil but i have tried cocnut oil i had read in some heath books that it is a good lubercant for women who have alot of driness it seems to help some for a few minutes but it never really resolves the pain issue. and right now the doc said not to be using ay lubercants at all because we are having sutch a hard time TTC and if DHs sperm counts happens to be low lubercants will decrease our chances even grater.
