Would you ever consider raising your own chickens? LOL, Well apparently it's becomming a new trend. Check out this blog and vote in the polls.

According to a story in the New York Times, the sales of baby chicks are on the rise as the number of families raising chickens in their backyards grows. The benefits include enough eggs to make your family breakfast every morning or, if you're a little more ambitious, home-grown free range chicken meat. You also get the satisfaction of watching your chicks grow and produce eggs. On the down side, it's probably going to cost less to buy your eggs and chicken breast from the grocery store and your neighbors may not be as enthusiastic as you are about your new hobby. LOL I just found out from another board that chickens stink. I had no idea as I'm a city girl and have never been around them. ;)

We were on a Garden tour early summer and one of the homes had a 'backyard farm'  She had veggies in raised beds, bee hives and 7 chickens....The Kids loved them and they got their own eggs and fertilizer for the garden....As for me....NO WAY....I remember helping my country cousins collect eggs in the chicken coop and it was a frightening experience for a city girl!  LOL....It is cool that more and more are going back to their 'roots'.  Hugs, Ruth
