Yesterday was a low key celebration, as usual. I'm thinking he may have some of the family genes that gives them pretty long lives. Since his stent and the meds he takes, he is in great shape, even lost 20 lbs this summer. I did buy him the robot he drooled over at the toy store shopping last week. Also made him his fav supper - BLT with fried potatoes. Plus picked up a qt. of frozen custard before the shop closes for the Winter. Sounds terribly unhealthy, but he calls it a rare "blow out". Back to chicken & veggies today - LOL.

I think I've pretty much shaken off the bug that had me laying around for days. Will be nice to get back to tutoring today. No family events planned this weekend, so I'm going to tackle some Fall cleaning. Glad all the curtains are washable, but don't enjoy cleaning the blinds - especially the kitchen ones. Before the kitchen remodel, we had narrow plastic blinds that could be washed in the but. Now they are the wider/thicker plastic ones and much heavier getting down. Must do it though, because they get greasy.

More rain coming, so no leaf raking for a while.

Your "low key" celebration sounds pretty special to me, Jacquie...a cool gift, a favorite meal & dessert! How did he feel about the number "70"? My 70th. was a shock to me...I couldn't understand how quickly the time passed to get there. Now I know what's meant by "Life's too short to...etc".

Glad you're feeling better. Cal

Jacquie:

I'm the one in the family that doesn't like big BD parties.  A nice meal at home and a movie is good for me.  DH on the other hand loves parties.  The bigger, louder the better for him.  Gee, BLT's sound really good right now.  DH is babysitting DGrnS tonight.  DD has class until 9 PM. I think Papa and Quin are carving pumpkins together tonight.

You gave me a good smile with your blind story, when we built this house in 1990, I brought wooden blinds for every room.  They look really good, but you can use any water on them, all you can do is wax them. Yep, wax.  Don't know what I was thinking, but on this issue someone should have stopped me.  Takes forever to clean.

We have three big Maple trees in our yard, would you like to rake my leaves? DH was complaining on Sunday that we need a leaf blower.  Maybe a Christmas present. Stay warm and Dry, don't get a re-bound cold like me.

 Always, Lou

Yep, we remodeled the kitchen in late 90s. Thankfully, these blinds look like wood but are plastic. I had heard that the wood ones can warp with the steam in the kitchen. Have you had that problem? I remember when I cleaned anything wood in the house with wax - LOL. Now I'm lucky if I dust.

We bought a leaf blower/vacuum a few years ago and DH uses it a lot. The ground up leaves are used as mulch around the perennials in the garden. Only problem is that the leaves need to be dry before using the machine and ours are wet right now. We decided to wait a few weeks until all the leaves are down. Then he'll either chop them, or we'll both spend an afternoon raking. I had planned on raking before the rain came this afternoon, but just a little while outside gave me an allergy headache, so that was it for me. So much mold in the air right now.

He just acted as if it were another day. Actually, we are in such better overall shape than some of our younger friends that we feel really grateful. I'm the one having trouble with the idea of turning 70. But, I have a feeling by the time it happens next June I will be over it. Besides, there is another GrGrBaby due around my birthday, so I will be way to excited to worry about how old I am.

A story about wisdom that goes with age & experience - All the womenfolk in the family were at the baby shower on Sunday for DGrS expected wee one. DGrS came in with one eye all swollen & looking gross. Hadn't hit it, nothing had bitten him. His DM & DW were pushing to send him to the ER. I took a good look and asked him if he'd been rubbing it. Yes, the allergies were making his eye itch so much he had really dug in. I told him I do that a lot - it makes the fluid under the eye covering fill up to protect the eye. I assured him a cold compress would solve the problem. There was no ice at the shower, so I grabbed a can of cold soda and told him to hold it on the eye, taking off every few minutes. The DM & DW were sure he was going to lose his sight, but agreed to try this. So, DGrS went to his car & sat for a while. He came back later with a big smile and an eye that looked way better. They were amazed and thanked me for overruling the ER trip. I was amazed that anyone listened to me - LOL.
