Howdy! New here. I was on a different ivillage decorating board and when I popped in today, I found it no longer exists so here I am! Let me give you a visual of our great room. Large room with vaulted ceiling. Walls are painted a color that looks like coffee mixed with a lot of milk. Couch and loveseat are a wheat color. Wood floor and wood fireplace surround. Also have an oriental chest that is black with bronze painted accents. Lamps on the oriental chest are bronze. Lamps in other parts of the room have a champagne/goldish hue. Curtains are a goldish color that are just a bit darker than the paint. It's a very neutral room that I find soothing but I do want to add some POP! To bring in more colors,I bought an area rug that is in front of the couch. It has a black background, some deep red and some bronze. I'd love to add more of that deep red color throughout the room. On either side of our fireplace we have built in bookcases. I was thinking the best way to bring in some color would be to add chochki's (I do not know how to spell that word but you know what I mean!) that are deep red to place on the bookcases. Any other iteas? Maybe pillows on the couch?
Thanks for any ideas!

Welcome zumbalady! Sounds like a great dance. Do you do the zumba?

Yes, sad to say a lot of the decorating boards on the magazine channel are closing. This one may be closing too by mid May.

I just started a decorating group on our new ivillage social network and you can even post photos, share ideas and get many suggestions. Everyone is welcome. Maybe you would like to join so you have a place to go or just chat?

Here is a link: http://groups.ivillage.com/decoratingwithstyle

Your home sounds so lovely. You have the right idea if you want to add some color to your neutral color room. You could even paint the back of your built-in bookcases in the red you like and add lights. If that is not possible you can attach some jazzy fabric with the red color in it to the backs with velcro. How about some red candles in bronze or black candle holders? They even have great black iron scrolly candle holders that hang on the wall. You could add some of the red to your curtains as decorative fringe or trim to the tops and or edges. Do you sew? Flowers, real or silk are a pretty touch in a bronze or black vase. Some of the silk flowers are made so well now they look real. Large pictures you like with some of the red in would be great for the focal wall, say above your fireplace. Yes, pillows are fun too. Just don't overdo it with adding some color or too many prints as a little color goes a long way. Sounds like it will be nice and romantic adding some red to the room. ;o) I would love to see some photos.

What are chochki's? Have a link to see one?

Tchochkis - I finally found the correct spelling - are those knick knacks you have around the house. Did you ever watch the Christopher Lowell show when it was on? He was always talking about "tchochkis" (Russian word pronounced chachkeys). When you decorate a bookcase with photos and knick knacks, those are tchochkis. Sounds a lot neater than just saying knick knacks, ya know! Oh, and thanks for your input! By the way, Zumba is a type of aerobics dance that I teach. Think Latin dance meets aerobics. Very fun!

Well, I guess I never watched Christopher that much as I was stuck on HGTV channel, LOL. I did catch his show once in awhile.

That dance you teach sound like it's sooooo fun. You must be really good. Sure wish someone would teach this near my home as I would love to go. I could lose 20 pounds and that sounds like a great fun way.

You're very welcome and come join our group if you like.

I know that room will be so fantastic with some red. Take photos, post a link to a online free photo album and share with us please.
