Ok, I know I live in a "rural" area, but I do know that there are knitters (and crocheters) out there but why are they hiding? For over five years now, I have been wanting to get a knitting/crochet circle started (and I know that they are out there because I judge their work at our county fair every now and again) but I haven't been able to connect well enough with anyone who would like to go to a local coffee place, home, park, etc. to gather together and knit. I do not want a "stitch and #$%3%" thing, just good conversation, some laughter, maybe a few tears, and sharing. I know I haven't been looking all that hard because my husband has been ill the past couple of years. At one point, I didn't touch a skein of yarn for 8 months - shame on me. But, now that he is somewhat stabilized, I am getting back to knitting and crocheting. Is it that hard elsewhere to form a group? Or, is it just here in Idaho? OOPS! (There are knitting circles in Western Washington - my sister-in-law's daughter is a "sort-of" member of one.) That's a really long way to go to knit something. he! he! It's so frustrating!!!

I can certainly understand your frustrations!  There are lots of "circles" here, but you have to "know" someone to get in!  And that's a bit difficult at times!

I'm just starting a group for papercrafting --- our first "meeting" is this weekend!  I've sent out invitations and asked each person to bring a friend and RSVPing by tomorrow evening.

So here are my suggestions:

If you know of a few gals that do knit and or crochet, extend an invite for an evening or afternoon out.  Ask them to bring a friend.  Once there, you can set up a more formal organization if you want or keep it fairly informal.

Post a flyer at your local library, a local craft or fabric store, the grocery store and with the  churches in your area.  If there are service groups that meet regularly in your area, you can also link up with them and share a flyer....it only takes two to form a group.  With county fairs coming up later this summer, check with your local fair board and see if you can post a flyer or two in the area as well as a sign up sheet.  What a great way to connect!  Announce a meeting time and place and hopefully, you'll get a couple of gals out for the first meeting.  Word of mouth will then take care of the rest...

Good luck and hope you'll drop in on Stitches, Paper & More and share!
