Our 9 yr old DGrD has been sick with flu and finally felt normal today. DDIL is out of town, DS had to take off 2 days of work to be at home, so I volunteered to visit for the afternoon. The girls love to go on nature walks with me, then wind up at the playground of the school the younger one (7) attends. DH very much approved of the walk as weather was 60 & sunny. It was just perfect, we strolled along (no fast walking for these girls), chat, check out what's happening at the local creek, play, then went back to the house for hot chocolate. Funny thing - got there and found they were out of the little packets of cocoa mix. Girls were bummed, but I asked if they had chocolate syrup, and yes, they did. So, Grandma heated up the milk, they stirred in the syrup and were delighted with there newly found creation. DDIL nicely left some yummy pumpkin bread (which I sure didn't need), then we played Sorry until DS came home. Guess I'm getting old - really simple things can please me these days.
Will be busy on Sat. making eldest (28)DGrDs birthday cake for the Sunday dinner. Am wondering if I'll ever get the windows cleaned & drapes back up. Weather is predicted to be in low to mid 60s for the week and I will have a hard time staying in the house. Think I'll use those early morning hours to get the cleaning done with, then can play.
Besides having a heavy heart for our Pam, a son (Army major) of a long-ago friend was buried this week, and DHs good friend reports that the last ditch experimental thyroid cancer treatments are not getting as good a results as expected. Just glad the sun has been out, or I might wind up curled up in a closet somewhere trying to forget the world.
