have a HP PSC 1600 printer.   was printing a thermostat manual and the printing is sporadically not readable.

It was ok THE FIRST FEW PAGES and then got spotty, although its mostly with smaller printing parts.

My immediate guess was the black ink is running low, but i seem to remember a printer or 2 ago it had something to do with the driver or something weird like that.

But then I hate to toss even a black ink cartridge if it is still good!

Any ideas?

Do I go to the HP site(printer maker) to update that?

Actually I  might figure out the answer tomorrow. Really tired right now?

Yes what I do is go to Google and type in my HP(your printer) printer drivers . They have instructions on how to install and everything...see if that helps..

Think I will try updating the drivers first and then if that doesnt work will replace the cartridge.  I can't complain cuz I have not had to replace it before...shows you how much I do print!!!

I used to do a lot more before when I was running the last puter and the last printer(it died).  I really was into making address labels for people. Did it for a bunch at work and then a bunch of relatives for Xmas presents!  I used Printmaster and sometimes used family, pet or interest pictures.  then I even branched out to bookplates(you know....stickers that go inside books and says this book belongs to .......) With those I even got into using various pet and dachshund pictures including one that was a "6 pack" of baby doxies....probably about 2-4 weeks old all sprawled out on their backs sleeping.
