Sigh......

"Rogers is either wrong or misconstruing the facts with the claims he makes in this speech....

"Section 141 of the House bill simply establishes the Health Choices Administration." http://healthtopic.nationaljournal.com/2009/09/factchecking-rogers-health-car.php I guess Rogers couldn't be bothered to read through a 3-page provision.""

"If a plan is not up to standard, the bill gives the commissioner power to levy fines or '[suspend] enrollment of individuals under such plan." [In other words, when insurance companies are playing their same old games and cheating their enrollees, they may be disenrolled from the exchange and, therefore, their enrollees may have to choose a different exchange plan that DOES meet minimum standards.]

"According to the data supplied by Rogers' office, Canada was within 7 percentage points of the United States on all but brain cancer, with most falling within 3 points. Canada actually leads the United States on cervical and pancreatic cancers.

Additionally, that same Lancet study noted that other countries with single-payer systems have comparable rates to the United States, including Finland, Sweden and Iceland."

Like the author of the response in the link above to Rogers' diatribe, I don't look at health care reform as punishing 85% of Americans in order to provide health insurance to 15%. But it's easy to believe that, with all the greed and prejudice in our society, there are too many people who do think of it as punishment.

-----------------------------------------------
Some day we'll learn that we Americans aren't the brightest when it comes to health care reform.

I've noticed the word "punishment" being used by some when it comes to paying taxes, too. I just don't understand it. I have never thought of paying taxes as being punishment. It is the price I pay as a citizen of this wonderful country. If I wanted to live in a third world country and keep all my money for myself, I suppose I could do that, but I'd rather pay taxes and live somewhere nice.

What would you call paying a 50%+ (combined fed, state & local) of your income to the gov't ?

Answer: "the price of membership for living in a civil society with infrastructure and services that keep that society reasonably safe and somewhat educated with provisions made for the transport of goods and people"
