I know I'm a few days late in posting this, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not a bad person for sometimes thinking about what your life would be like if you had made other choices. I find myself thinking that on many occassions - especially when I'm going through a particularily rough time with my daughter.
Life isn't easy and sometimes the choices we make seem like we've made it even harder. Yes, as an independent person you had responsibility for yourself and no one else and you were not reliant on anyone other than you, whom you knew you could count on. I think it's perfectly normal to look back on those days and question the choices that you made that changed that.
The key is that you acknowledge that you love your children dearly, that you are still moving forward to become an independent individual once again, and that the blues of the day will pass.
That's life and human nature. Kudos to you for typing about it instead of eating it away.
